Policy
Editorial policy
Every technical rule in a Lingravelix guide is tied to the primary source that defines it, secondary and commercial sources are labelled as such, figures are quoted with their source and year, and corrections that change a fact are dated on the page. Recommendations are marked as recommendations. Nothing on the site is paid for by the organisations it mentions.
Sources
Primary sources first
For how search engines handle language versions, we cite Google Search Central 1. For language tags, text direction and translation length, we cite the W3C Internationalization pages 2. For accessibility, we cite the W3C's WCAG 2.2 materials 3. For Swiss law, statistics and business rules, we cite the Confederation's own publications: Fedlex for legislation 4, the Federal Statistical Office 5, the Federal Tax Administration 6 and the SME portal 7.
Labelled secondary sources
When no primary source is available to us, we use a secondary source and label it in the source list. Commercial sources are labelled as commercial. The label tells you how much weight to give each one.
What we do not do with sources
We do not quote a source for more than it says. If a page says something "may" happen, the guide does not say it "will". If a source gives a figure for one year, the guide gives the year.
Figures and claims
- No figures are invented, estimated or rounded beyond what the source gives.
- No search volumes, traffic figures or conversion rates are published.
- No statements about what "most" sites or businesses do appear without a source.
- Examples involving organisations are fictional and labelled as fictional.
- There are no testimonials, client logos or case studies on the site.
Recommendations
Some statements are our recommendations, such as preferring language folders for a site that serves one country in several languages. Where a guide recommends rather than reports, it says so and gives the reasoning, so readers can weigh it and disagree.
Sample translations
Short phrases in other languages appear in the language demo and on the home page to show length and direction. They are labelled as samples on every page where they appear, with a note that a translator should check any such phrase before use.
Independence
No organisation mentioned on this site has paid to be mentioned, and we do not use affiliate links or receive commission from plugin makers, translators, agencies or software vendors. The commercial interest that does exist is set out in the note at the foot of every page.
Authorship
Victoria James, a pen name, is the byline on every guide; behind it is the site's editor, who writes and checks them. The pen name is not used to claim credentials or experience; the guides rest on their cited sources. More is on the author page.
Review dates
Each guide and tool page shows the date it was last reviewed. Guides are reviewed against their sources, and the date shows the last revision.
Corrections
Errors can be reported on the contact page; name the page and say what looks wrong. If a correction changes a fact or a recommendation, the page is updated and a dated note at the end of the page says what changed. Typing errors and broken links are fixed without a note.
Tools
The four tools apply rules described in the matching guides. If a tool handles a case wrongly, it is corrected in the same way as a guide, and its page notes the change when it affects results.
