LingravelixMultilingual websites, planned properly

About

About Lingravelix

Lingravelix is an independent site about multilingual websites, written in English for organisations in Switzerland. It publishes guides with cited sources, offers four free planning tools that run in your browser, and sells design and structure services for sites in more than one language. It does not translate, and it does not promise search rankings.

Why a site about multilingual websites

A website in two or more languages is not a single-language site with translations added. It needs a language map, an address structure, a switcher, hreflang, templates that survive longer text, locale formats, and a routine for keeping every version current. When those are planned late, they are expensive; when they are planned first, they are mostly a matter of discipline.

Switzerland makes the question unavoidable. With four national languages, and English named as a main language by about 6 percent of residents in the Federal Statistical Office's 2023 figures 1, a Swiss organisation serving the whole country meets the problem early. The guides on this site are written for that situation.

What we publish

  • Guides. Ten guides covering hreflang, address structure, switchers, choosing languages, translation handover, right-to-left layout, text expansion, Swiss formats, redirects and costs. Each one opens with the answer and cites its sources.
  • Tools. An hreflang planner, a locale QA checklist, a project planner and a language demo. They run in your browser and send nothing to us.
  • Examples. Three fictional organisations that show how the decisions fit together. They are labelled as fictional because they are.

What we sell

Eight services, from a language structure review to a new multilingual shop, each with a starting price in Swiss francs on the pricing page. Every project gets a written quote with a fixed price before any deposit.

What we do not do

  • Translation. Translators you appoint provide the words. We do not translate, certify translations or resell translation services.
  • Legal advice. We quote official summaries where Swiss rules shape a design and refer specific questions to your adviser.
  • Ranking promises. Correct language signals help search engines match readers to versions; positions in search results are not ours to promise.
  • Commissions. We take no commission from translators, agencies, plugin makers or software vendors, and we do not use affiliate links.

How the guides are kept honest

The editorial policy sets out the rules: primary sources for technical claims, labels on secondary and commercial sources, no invented figures, no testimonials, and dated corrections when a fact changes. Our own recommendations are marked as recommendations, with the reasoning shown.

Who writes

The guides are written and checked by Victoria James, the pen name of the site's editor. The pen name points readers at the evidence in each guide instead of at a personality. Her author page describes what she covers.

Commercial interest

The note at the foot of every page explains the commercial interest behind this site. It applies to the services described here and to any enquiry you send.

Language of this site

Lingravelix is written in British English with Swiss readers in mind, which is why prices appear in Swiss francs and examples refer to Swiss cantons and cities. This site is itself in one language. That is a deliberate choice for a small publication: one language kept accurate is better than four kept partly, which is the same advice our guides give.

Contact

You can reach us through the form or the email address on the contact page. Questions about the site are welcome; beyond the first reply to an enquiry, we do not offer free consulting by email.
